One day the goddess Iris was in her temple. It was a rainy and sad day. It was rainy because Zeus wasn’t feeling good. He had a head ache. Iris doesn’t like rainy days, so she had nothing to do. Then she decided she was going to paint.
Iris loves to paint. First she wanted to test her colors. Then as she was carrying her bowls of paint Cupid had to go shoot someone with his love arrows. He was instructed to do so by Aphrodite. As he was flying he accidently bumped into Iris. As it happened all of her paint fell. This upset Iris, but as she watched her paint falling she realized that it had stopped. It was as if time had frozen. It was like it was stuck in the rain. It couldn’t have looked more beautiful.
When Zeus saw it he wanted to know who had done this. He was not angry though, he was delighted at the sight of this magnificent creation. As he looked at the creation his head ache started to fade. As it was fading the rain had slowly stopped. When he looked at the wonderful sight he noticed how it gracefully stretched across the sea and land. He decided to call it a rainbow. When he found out Iris had done this he rewarded her by giving her the power of making rainbows. She did not need her paint any more. Now whenever it stops raining Iris will make a rainbow.
